Residents have voted in the first ever Macclesfield Town Council.

The result mirrored the Conservative party’s General Election success with eight of the 12 spots on the council going to the Tories.

The remaining four were won by Labour.

In Broken Cross, Tories Liz Durham and Martin Hardy repeated their victory in the Cheshire East Council election, taking both seats at the expense of David Langley and David Toby.

In Central ward it was the same picture with Conservative Beverley Dooley and Labour’s Janet Jackson copying their success in the borough elections to take the two seats available.

Missing out were Bill Livesley, Conservative, Richard Watson, Labour, Adrian Howard, UKIP, and John Knight from the Greens.

The East ward seat was won by Philip Bolton for the Conservatives with Lindy Brett, Greens, Stephen Broadhead, Lib Dem, and Eileen Talbot, Labour, missing out.

Hurdsfield ward elected Labour’s Matthew Sharrocks over Tory Bernadette McKenna and Brian Doherty, Green.

The two seats in South ward went to Chris Andrew from the Conservatives and Neil Puttick from Labour.

Missing out were Liam Acton, Greens, Jane Leigh, UKIP, Brad Snelling, Conservative, and Fiona Wilson, Labour.

In Tytherington ward Ainsley Arnold repeated his victory in the borough elections by winning a seat on the council with fellow Conservative Gareth Jones. It came at the expense of Christopher Wilcock of Labour, Independent Lloyd Roberts and Walter Houston from the Greens.

West and Ivy ward elected Alift Harewood, Labour, and Conservative Adam Schofield at the expense of Martin Ault, UKIP, Matthew Lewis, Labour, and Madge Slater, Conservative.

The new council is to get a budget of £575,000 to spend on local services.

Macclesfield Town Council will be responsible for allotments, public toilets, town centre management, street furniture, Christmas lights, floral displays, Weston Community Centre and CCTV cameras.

Residents will see their council tax bills go up by an average of £33 per year through a new parish precept.

The authority will have 12 councillors spread across seven wards, based on the existing boundaries.
