The community is rallying to support the Cookson family while baby Cherry fights cancer in hospital.

Lisa Flynn, 34, a mum of two from Arlington Drive, met Cherry’s mum Verity when they worked at Macclesfield Day Nursery.

Lisa wanted to do something to help her friend, who has been at hospital with Cherry since her shock diagnosis. She launched an online appeal to raise money and has so far raised £2,000 for the family.

Lisa said: “Staying in hospital can throw so many costs at parents, with parking, travelling, food and drink, and the last thing we want is for Verity and Ben to worry about finances.

“They have an older daughter Pepper and it would be lovely for them to have spare funds to take Pepper on trips and buy her little treats for coping so well and staying such a little superstar.

“I’m asking for donations to help with these costs to help take away some of the strain while Cherry fights off cancer.”

There is a Cherry May Cookson Fighting Fund Facebook page with fundraising events or go to justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Cherrymay to donate.

The money will be used be used to cover extra costs while Cherry is being treated, as well as alternative therapies or extra care Cherry may need outside the realms of the NHS. A proportion of donations will also be made to a Nuroblastoma charity or the hospital ward currently caring for Cherry.
