Football WAG Coleen Rooney has hit out over plans to build houses near her £5m family home.

Furious Coleen has submitted a formal objection to the proposals in leafy Prestbury and claims the development could ‘ruin’ the upmarket Cheshire village.

The plans are for 15 homes, an access road and a footpath on land to the north of Chelford Road. The application is due to be decided by town hall councillors next month and has so far attracted more than 60 letters and e-mails of complaint.

In her letter to Cheshire East Council, Coleen urges planners: “Let’s not ruin our village.”

She goes on: “The development would be in direct conflict with the national policy to protect green belt land. That policy is in place for specific purposes and the development would impact detrimentally on the openness of the green belt.

“There is no evidence of very special circumstances required to override the harm to the green belt - the absence of a five-year housing land supply in Cheshire East does not constitute very special circumstances.”

Manchester United captain Wayne and wife Coleen's eight-bedroom mansion is set in 20 acres and the plush property features a cinema room, bar and glass floors in the entrance hall.

Her call to councillors has been backed by many of her neighbours, who have posted objections along similar lines. They include former Manchester United defender Wes Brown’s wife Leanne and ex-Slade rocker Noddy Holder’s wife Suzan.

The plans have been lodged by developers Harvey Wood Investments Ltd for a 3.36 hectare plot of land to the west of Prestbury. Planning documents reveal five of the proposed 15 houses would be ‘affordable homes’.

Fashion designer Coleen however said the plans would ‘damage the special landscape, character and appearance of the area’ and revealed concerns about ‘highway safety’ for cars, cyclists and pedestrians due to ‘poor visibility’.

She adds in the complaint: “The development would have a detrimental impact on highway safety due to new accesses. The development will mean more car journeys in to the village, which is already congested and unsuitable for the increased traffic.”

Suzan Holder meanwhile adds in her complaint: “I can see no ‘very special circumstances’ that would be the only way to justify the destruction of this green belt area for the purpose of building any number of new houses. Prestbury is an historic village and we need to preserve its character and setting.”

Homes in the Prestbury area are known to be some of the most expensive outside southern England.
