A group’s renewed campaign to keep respite services at Hollins View gathered momentum at its latest meeting.

Following a council u-turn, Cheshire East pledged to keep the service at the Macclesfield care home, on Clarke Terrace, and Crewe’s Lincoln House until December 2015. But campaigners have now stepped up efforts to secure the long term future of the home and the services it offers.

The council had planned to scrap it and instead provide respite care only in the independent sector – privately and through voluntary services.

The campaign group is now writing to health organisations and the council’s own scrutiny committee to ask about their involvement in future plans for social care and the decisions made about the future of Hollins View.

Its members are also writing to the prospective parliamentary candidates in Cheshire East, as well as Macclesfield MP David Rutley, asking if they would support the provision of respite at the home in 2016 and beyond.

Campaigner Morven Sowerbutts said: “We managed to save the home for a year, but now we need to know that vulnerable adults will still be able to get good quality local care beyond December 2015.

“We are still very determined to get the best decision possible – which is of course keeping care services at Hollins View.

“We believe that local and public services should be preserved for the good of the community.

“We have written to Cheshire East’s Health and Wellbeing Board, asking whether it should have been involved more in the decisions about care services in Macclesfield and at Hollins View.

“We are also writing to all the parliamentary candidates. We are not letting them sit on the fence, they must take a view about whether they would keep this lifeline service going.”

The group is also planning to join forces with campaigners in Crewe who are fighting to ensure the survival of respite care at Lincoln House.
