Brave Luke’s undeterred by robbery

A MACCLESFIELD off-licence worker has told of his ordeal at the hands of robbers who threatened him with a screwdriver.

A MACCLESFIELD off-licence worker has told of his ordeal at the hands of robbers who threatened him with a screwdriver.

Luke Chapman, 22, was working alone on Sunday evening at Bargain Booze on Buxton Road (left) when the raid took place.

The thieves stole a haul of cash, cigarettes and alcohol, including Champagne.

Luke was approached at 8.30pm by one man wielding a screwdriver, who demanded cash from the till and for the safe to be opened while the other robber kept watch on the door.

Luke, who has worked at the shop since February and bravely returned to work the next day, said: "I was scared and it did leave me a bit a shaken up.

"Every time the door opens now, I check to see who’s coming in."

The robbers both had their faces covered with scarves and caps so only their hair could be seen. Both men are described as white adult males. One was wearing a light-grey hooded top and dark gloves, and the second a navy blue jumper.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman added: "Two men entered the store, one armed with a screwdriver and carrying a black holdall.

"They demanded staff give them cash from the till, and stole liquor and Champagne before they fled the store on foot in the direction of Union Road."

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have been behaving suspiciously at the time or saw anyone matching the description in the vicinity of Buxton Road and Union Road.
