If last half term is anything to go by, children at Bolsey St Mary’s Primary School should have been skipping back to their classes.

The children enjoyed a whole range of hands-on activities as part of their Science and Technology Week, including a school trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, creating a Lego city and building pirate ships.

Rachel Mortishire-Smith, Key Stage Two class teacher, said: “We had a lot of fun ‘learning by doing’! Visitors to school introduced us to new chemistry activities such as chromatography with marker pens; Key Stage 1 experimented with floating and sinking in ‘Pirate Science’ workshops while Key Stage 2 investigated the culprits of a crime scene in an afternoon of CSI Forces. Jayne from United Utilities gave us a fascinating, interactive insight into the water cycle, how our water is treated and how we can be less wasteful.

She added: “Popular with everyone - including the staff - was a visit from Stephen of Electro City: a day spent building and wiring a city out of a vast amount of Lego, with the grand finale of turning the hall lights out to see all the buildings lit up in the dark.”
