Upton Priory youngsters have been going global in the name of World Cup fun.

Pupils at Upton Priory Primary School have been dressing up in the colours of all 32 teams after classes adopted their own teams for the duration of the tournament.

And in between learning about the food and geography of every nation, children managed to see England squeeze narrowly into the last 16 of the competition with a win over Slovenia.

Year six teacher Caroline Burnage said: "We have been celebrating the World Cup since it started and had a draw where each class had four teams to follow.

Children were allowed to dress up – so we’ve had some brilliant outfits – and we invited in parents too for the England game, so it was very boisterous and cheery. They all got really into it."

And international cuisine has also been on the class menu. "My class has France so there was lots of pain au chocolate, croissants and French cheeses – and a punch without any red wine," said Caroline.

Flags are taken off classroom doors each time a team is knocked out and there will be prizes for the pupils who stand victorious after the final.
