RESIDENTS are enjoying a better cuppa - thanks to a massive reduction in water hardness.

Water experts at United Utilities have softened the local water by slashing levels of calcium and magnesium from the borough's supply.

Soft water makes it easier to create later when using soap - and makes for a better brew.

A spokesman for United Utilities said: "We hope that local people are pleased.

"They should notice a difference in their cups of tea, and their kettles should not get so furred up with limescale as they used to."
