STARRY LINE UP AT THE GIMP TWISTER MUSIC LOUNGE

The line up at the Gimp Twister Music Lounge (named after Macc’s silk ribbon makers), in St Michael’s churchyard from Friday, June 17 to Sunday 19, is getting more impressive by the day. We can now confirm that as well as Macc’s Hot Vestry, Cassia and Florin will be playing live.

That’s as well as musician and activist Louis Barabbas, songwriter Jo Rose, The Songwriters Circle including Helen Walford and George Borowski, and the infectiously exuberant Hope & Social, with more still to come.

We’re delighted to also welcome back New Order’s Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert – both big supporters of Barnaby – on the decks for a special Maxonian session.

Hear the best emerging talent, established Manchester names, critically acclaimed musicians – and the odd megastar – at the Music Lounge. And it’s all ‘pay what you can’!

BREWING CULTURE

Do you have something to say about culture in Macc? Does it flow better over a pint of locally brewed ale?

A unique event will take place on Sunday, June 19, devised by the Heritage and Culture Partnership. It is part pub crawl, part daydreaming about what makes a good town.

King Edward Street Chapel is the starting point where speakers break the ice and get participants thinking. They then break bread together – in this case made with ‘barm’, a waste product of brewing – before moving on to various pubs for discussions (and perhaps a pint of ‘Starry Messenger’ brewed specially to support the festival by Red Willow).

The ideas are brought together and The Print Mill, based in the disused jewellers on Mill Street, will collate them into ‘A Manifesto for Macc’ with a copy for everyone to take home.

The project is already bringing people together. Jacqui Wood from arts project ARC, who will be running ‘A Love Letter to Macc’ in newly renovated Sparrow Park on June 18 and 19 will work with one group to write their collective ‘love letter’.

“It will be great to have cross over between Love Letter and Brewing Culture,” said Jaqui, “and ARC also now has links to the Print Mill, so Barnaby is having that effect of joining things up.”

Brewing Culture tickets are £7 (including a drink). The first love letter is on ARC’s blog www. lovelettertomacc.wordpress.com which salutes Brassington’s famous lemon buns!

Pick up a brochure from the Macclesfield Visitor Information Centre or visit www.barnabyfestival.org.uk for more details of all events.
