The sun shone for 6,000 visitors who turned out for this year’s Alderley Edge May Fair.

Organisers laid on a variety of family entertainment.

A parade featuring May Queen Lucy Peers, 11, her princesses Tess and Maggie Foster, a wizard, stilt walkers, brass band and town crier led through the village to Alderley Edge Park where there were attractions, stalls and refreshments.

Christine Munro, who founded the event four years ago, said: “The village and every part of the park were packed.

“It was fantastic to see the parade coming into the park and all the families sat having picnics."

She urged people to come forward and join the committee.

She added: “The fair is growing and we don’t to lose it. We need people to come forward to help.”
