A MOTORBIKE ace saw his dream turn into a nightmare when his devoted girlfriend was killed in a car crash just three days after he won the UK's biggest race meeting.

Christian Elkin, 24, had been in high spirits after sensationally winning the 2005 British 125cc GP Championship for the second year in a row at Brands Hatch.

But delight turned to despair just 72 hours later when his girlfriend, Alison Batman, was killed in a rush hour car crash.

A distraught Christian, who lives on Brocklehurst Avenue, Macclesfield, said: "My whole life's been turned upside down. One minute I was as high as the moon and next I'm at rock bottom.

"Everything was going so well. I had just won the championship and had a great girlfriend, and then something like this happens - I'm devastated."

He added: "She was a really friendly, happy person that got on with everybody. She was intelligent, sexy, and lit up my world.

"The racing season has ended now so I've got a lot of time on my hands to do not very much. I suppose this is the time you would normally spend with your girlfriend."

Alison, also 24, would travel across the country to support Christian and was in the crowd again at Brands Hatch on Sunday, October 9, to witness perhaps his greatest success.

Christian, who works as a motorbike mechanic at a Triumph dealership in Stockport, said that winning the GP Championship was "the best you can do in this country" and compared it to topping football's Premiership table.

The loving couple spent the following day together celebrating his track success at the theme park at Alton Towers, before staying overnight at his Hurdsfield home.

But disaster struck the following day when Alison, who owned a web design company, was involved in a head-on collision in Knutsford while driving home to Oswestry, Shropshire.

Christian said: "We hadn't been going out that long, but we did everything together and travelled virtually every night to see each other.

"Ali had been to watch me at Brands Hatch on the Sunday and we spent Monday at Alton Towers and just chilling out in Macclesfield.

"She was driving home the following day when she was involved in an accident. I can't believe I've lost my girlfriend."

The two-car collision occurred at about 8.20am on Tuesday, October 11, on a bend near Manor Lane in Ollerton. Both cars burst into flames and three fire engines and four police cars arrived on the scene and cordoned off the road.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 38-year-old woman, escaped from her car and was treated for shock at the scene.

Christian paid tribute to his family and friends for helping him through his grief. Alison's funeral service will take place in Oswestry on Monday, October 24.
