The Alderley Edge bypass is set to close for essential maintenance.
The three and half mile stretch will be blocked off to traffic for five hours on Friday whilst council workers cut the grass at the side.
Bosses say it is was a massive maintenance operation with several large tractors and other vehicles involved and they have no option but to close the road between the hours of 10am and 3pm.
A spokeswoman said these hours had been specifically chosen to limit the impact on rush hour traffic.
As well as a tractor cutting the grass, the drainage gullies all along the road are to be cleaned.
A diversion route will down the A34 through Alderley Edge.
