THERE were celebrations amid the chaos of a power cut as students of Fallibroome Academy received their A-level results.

The school was left in the dark during most of the morning yesterday as an underground cable fault affected almost 500 properties in the town.

Engineers from North West Electricity were able to get the school power via a generator as students arrived to collect their results.

The school saw every single one of its students pass with an impressive 60 per cent achieving grades A* to B, while 87 per cent scored A* to C.

A total 21 students achieved three or more A and A* grades in all their examinations.

The role of honour includes: Clara Boothby, Katie Bower, Laura Brunt, Holly Burton, Alexandra Davies, Katie Downes, James Florence, Mark Gough, Aaron Grant, Liam Hadfield, Tobias Halsey, Annabel Kite, Philippa Lloyd, Thomas Payne, Daniella Schutze, Sam Smith, Charlotte Spencer, Xian Voon, Georgia Williams, Zoe Williamson and Celyn Wynn-Griffiths.

Sam Smith will study medicine at St John’s College Cambridge and Daniella Schutze will read German at Worcester College Oxford.

Principal Peter Rubery said: “This has been a great year with 100 per cent of students achieving A-level passes and a significant number achieving the very demanding award of the A* grade. We have continued to maintain excellent results which pay testament to the hard work of a terrific group of students and the dedication of their teachers. We wish all our students every success as they progress to the next phase of their lives and thank them for their contribution to the cultural and social life of the school. The achievements of this cohort of students will inspire future generations as we move into our stunning new 6th Form Centre in September.”

Mark Payne, director of Sixth Form, said: “This has been an outstanding group of students who have contributed so much to the life of the school and the community in Macclesfield and now can justifiably be very proud of their academic achievements. We are delighted that so many have been successful in attaining university places on some of the most competitive courses in the country, but equally that many others have achieved their first place choices at university or are progressing on to prestigious apprenticeship placements or employment.”
