More than 300 sheep and cows have been seized from a farmer in Macclesfield who is disqualified from keeping cattle.

150 sheep and 200 cows were removed from five fields around Macclesfield and one in Derbyshire this morning (Friday, October 12) in a joint operation between Cheshire East Council and Macclesfield police.

The farmer had been disqualified from keeping any animals after he was convicted for cruelty to animals.

Warrants were obtained under the animal welfare act, cattle movement and traffic regulations.

Traffic travelling along the B5470 from Kettleshulme to Macclesfield, via Rainow, was disrupted as a result of the operation to relocate the animals to another farm.
