Generous staff at a Macclesfield estate agents have helped raise almost £10,000 for The Christie and the NSPCC.

Bridgfords Prestbury joined forces with branches across the north west to collect cash by running marathons, bike rides, bake sales, fancy dress events, bucket collections and football tournaments.

It is part of a pledge made by the nationwide estate agency and lettings firm in March to raise £20,000 in two years.

Vanessa Simmons, branch manager at Bridgfords Prestbury has been coordinating the fundraising campaign across the business which has so far involved more than 100 staff from 75 branches across the North West and Yorkshire.

She said: "Last Christmas a number of branches asked if it was okay to sell NSPCC Christmas cards and this uncovered a real hunger from employees to support some great charities, so we made our fundraising pledge in March this year.

"Both The Christie and NSPCC rely heavily on volunteers and fundraising to continue to provide the great services that they offer, so we are thrilled to have nearly reached our halfway target in under seven months."

The next fundraising is at the Stockport County football ground on the November 30 featuring entertainment and an auction.

All money raised will go to the children’s charity NSPCC, which combats child cruelty, and the Christie, which provides care, treatment and support to those affected by cancer.

Mark Alcroft, managing director of Bridgfords said: "I’m extremely proud of the motivation and determination that Bridgfords staff have shown throughout the campaign, and I’d also like to thank the public for all the support they have given us during our attempt to help The Christie and the NSPCC."
