Fallibroome Academy celebrated its best results for three years.

Among the high flyers who helped the school to their success were Ben Mortishire-Smith, Henry Clifford and Alex Morris.

The three friends will be heading down to Cambridge together after clocking up eight A* between them.

Ben said getting his 2A*A was a ‘tense experience’. He will study natural sciences with ambitions to start a career in academic research.

Henry had to do extra exams to win his place at Cambridge to study maths and physics. He got 2A*A.

He said: “The extra exam results came out at midnight so I had to pick them up online and struggled to get through. I found out I passed, then couldn’t sleep waiting to get these results.”

The champagne is also on ice for Henry who had to head straight off to his job as a classroom assistant at Beech Hall’s summer school.

Meanwhile Alex is about to embark on another eight years of study. He got 4A* and will study medicine.

Another high-achiever, Jonathan Mitchell, is off to Imperial College London to study mechanical engineers after getting 4A*.

He is passionate about the subject and said: “Engineering is the foundation of our society. All technology comes from the idea and work of an engineer. I’m not interested in a big bank balance, I want to have a legacy - something you can see and touch - at the end of my career. I want to be able to look at a new type of car driving past or a bridge people walk across and say ‘I designed that’.”

There were also pleasant surprises for some students.

Charlie Baker got A*AAB - results she wasn’t expecting at all.

She said: “Over the last year I had quite a lot of distractions at home which meant I wasn’t in school much. I was hoping for some Cs to get into my university, but these results change everything and really open up options to me.”

However, university can wait for now as Charlie is following her dream of becoming a scuba diving instructor.

She said: “I recently went on holiday and tried diving and loved it so much I did my PADI Open Water course. Now I plan to save up some money and head back to Lanzarote to learn how to teach it. Worse case scenario is that I go to uni next year instead.”

Eleanor Dickens will study theatre and performance at the University of Surrey after getting AAB. She wants to become a director of theatre and film.

She said: “There aren’t enough female directors and I want to change that.”

Five friends Laura Harrington, Izzy Ware, Rebecca Lord, Hannah Thorpe and Olivia Morris are all embarking on very different career trajectories.

Laura Harrington, is off to university to study physical geography. Her ambition to train as a high school teacher.

Izzy Ware, is hoping for a career in conservation and will study biology at Sheffield.

Rebecca Lord will also study geography which she believes will give her lots of career options in the future.

Hannah Thorpe has set her sights on Hollywood and wants to get into film production. She is heading to Bath to study how to make movies.

Olivia Morris is taking a different route and is starting a marketing apprenticeship with McCann.

She said: “I get work experience and paid, so it’s win win.”
