Hundreds of people who enjoy the geekier things in life packed into Macclesfield’s senior citizen’s hall to share their passion.

The ‘Have Yourself A Very Geeky Christmas’ event returned for its second year to celebrate the world of sci-fi, film, fantasy and literature.

The hall, on Duke Street, Macclesfield, was full of stalls which drew inspiration from their holders favourite books, films, and television programmes.

There was also a tearoom - named Madam Pudifoot’s after the teashop found in Hogwarts’ neighbouring wizarding village, Hogsmeade – where people could refuel with geeky-themed hot and cold drinks, including a cool and creamy Butterbeer or a ‘Gandalf the White’ coffee.

A popular ‘geeky quiz’ made a return appearance, and there was live music from Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons, The Pumpkin Pasties and Hayley Carr.

On the day, people donated money towards The Owl Experience Rescue Sanctuary in Stafford, who support rescued birds of prey until they are released back into the wild. Staff from the sanctuary even bought along birds for people to see and hold.

Catherine Cowdrey, who helped organise the event, said: “The event was fantastic, and very busy the whole afternoon.

“I think most people’s favourite aspect were the owls from the rescue sanctuary in Stafford, but of course the stalls, tearoom, craft workshops and music were very well received as well.”
