An upturned horse was helped back to its feet after getting stuck in its stable.

A specialist animal rescue team from Cheshire Fire Service was called to rescue the 30-year-old horse which was found upside down in its stable at Sagars Road in Handforth.

The unit from Knutsford and an accompanying fire engine with a fire crew from Wilmslow attended yesterday at 8.43am.

The horse Whisky Mac was helped back onto his feet by the crew who used a tractor and specialist straps to secure and lift him.

A vet attended to sedate Whisky Mac while the rescue took place and cared for him throughout his ordeal.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The horse was stuck upside down in the stable when the crews got there and it’s not clear how he got like that.

“The animal rescue team is specially trained to use straps to move the horse so there is no internal damage.”
