The community rallied through wet weather to enjoy another Rainow Church Fete.

Stormy conditions failed to dampen the mood at the event with entertainment including a tug of war, fun dog show, Rainow Duck Race and scarecrow festival.

Volunteers who worked hard to organise the fete have counted up the funds raised and are donating the money to various causes. They will share the proceeds between MacMillan Cancer Support, the church kitty and village organisations which provide for children and older people.

Lucie Pettit, who helped organise the event, said: “As dawn broke over Rainow on fete day it’s fair to say we weren’t hopeful for a repeat of last year’s glorious sunshine. Instead organisers found themselves setting up in the fete field with torrential rain as their companion.

“It was still tipping down as the parade set off from Hawkins Lane. But the rain storm wasn’t going to dampen the spirit or ruin the hard work of all those who made such an effort with their costumes and parade floats. They danced and waved enthusiastically as the samba band led them to Hough Hole Farm.

Within 15 minutes the rain had stopped and the sun tried its best to shine down on our fabulous village.”

Parade winners were presented with their prizes and mayor Ann Williams delivered a speech. Rainow School and Tytherington School band performed and there were stalls, tombola, raffle, barbecue, face painting and competitions.

Lucie said: “The children enjoyed a wonderful magic show and the dog show proved as popular as ever. The ever popular Kerridge Climb tested all athletes not only will the steep ascent but also the slippery descent, and the Tug of War proved to be a seriously fought competition with much entertainment for spectators.
