Chesire WAGS has a whole new meaning this month.

Forget the swanky wives and girlfriends of Premiership footballers and head instead to Treacle Market in Macclesfield where local dogs will strut their stuff at a dog show in the hope of winning a rosette and some gourmet dog biscuits.

There will be a range of classes including prettiest bitch, best veteran and best scruff.

Some will go a step further, dig in the wardrobe, get creative and maybe win the highly-coveted ‘best dressed’ class.

Jane Munro, from Treacle – and a fundraiser for local charity Erin Hounds Sighthound Rescue, which organises the event – said: “This is such a good-humoured annual event at the market.”

The dog show takes place in the grounds of St Michael’s Parish Church beside the market on Sunday, September 28, with all the takings supporting Erin Hounds’ work rescuing endangered Irish greyhounds and lurchers.

Rosie Green, of Erin Hounds, said: “Raising awareness of the vast problem of over breeding and welfare issues that affect Sighthounds is also part of the charity’s work

“We will also be selling beautiful hand-knitted greyhound and lurcher coats and snoods.”

Registration is from noon and classes start at 1pm.

The Treacle Market is held on the last Sunday of each month at the Marketplace.
