Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a fire above a take away this morning.

People were evacuated from the building when the blaze took hold on the top floor of the three-storey building above Fiesta take away on Waters Green.

Crews are still at the scene checking for pockets of fire.

Emergency response teams from Macclesfield and Congleton were called, as well as an aerial rescue appliance from Macclesfield, at 9.24am this morning.

Police attended to control traffic in the area while crews fought the fire.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a fire above a take away after reports of smoke coming from the roof.

“It’s a three-storey building and crews gained access to the top floor to put out the fire.

“The crew is still there cutting away to make sure that there are no areas which will reignite.

“Fire investigation officers are on their way.”

Update:

A spokesman from Cheshire Fire Service has confirmed the fire was accidental.

It is believed the fire was caused as a result of building work.
