Today we reveal your manifesto for Macclesfield ahead of the General Election.

Residents responded to our survey about the big issues that must be tackled by the politicians to secure your vote.

We’ve looked at the results and highlighted the six areas you believe should be made a priority:

  • The uncertain future of Hollins View care home
  • A loss of confidence in Cheshire East council
  • Opposition to lowering the voting age
  • The cuts faced by the council
  • Immigration
  • The NHS

The Express campaign to save services at Hollins View has attracted support from around the town and continues to feature on our pages. More than 60per cent of people in our survey said the vital service needs to be protected.

Percentage of respondents who say Hollins View respite centre needs protecting

65.4

A majority of 61pc of people said Cheshire East has faced too many scandals and they have lost confidence in the council.

The Lyme Green scandal has been a major issue after public money was wasted building a waste transfer station without planning permission.

More than half of you said immigration is a problem and should be controlled, 54pc say council cuts have gone too far and 45pc say the NHS should be the government’s top priority.

A clear majority don’t think the voting age should be lowered.

Voters will also want answers about the town centre redevelopment - which has been thrown into doubt in recent months. 54pc in our survey said the nature of town centres is changing and the town plan needs an urgent rethink.

Another issue is transport, with nearly half of people saying that driving through Macclesfield is a nightmare and transport infrastructure needs rethinking. Getting people into work is another area to be tackled, with 43pc of respondents worried about jobs in the future.

Sixty-six people responded to our manifesto survey at macclesfield-express.co.uk.

Residents will vote for Macclesfield MP in the General Election on Thursday, May 7. On the same day, there are elections for Cheshire East council and for the first time the people of Macclesfield will choose 12 councillors across seven wards for the new Macclesfield Parish Council.

There will also be elections for parish councils including Poynton, Bollington, Prestbury and outlying villages.

Candidate nominations must be received by Thursday, April 9.
