Two men arrested as part of a police crackdown on drugs in the town are facing jail after admitting their crimes.

Marcus Holland, 19, was behind the wheel of a car that hit a pedestrian during a police chase across Macclesfield town centre.

During the mile long pursuit on May 5, the Vauxhall Corsa that Holland was driving caused minor injuries to the man on Park Green near the Cenotaph.

The court heard that police in an unmarked car had approached Holland when he was parked in Windmill Street and he sped off towards Mill Street and dumped the car on Samuel Street.

Holland, of Playfair Street, Manchester, admitted dangerous driving at Chester Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the same court on August 19.

Mark Anthony Watt, 44, admitted assault, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and possession with intent to supply diamorphine after he was caught with the class A drugs in Macclesfield on May 7.

Watt, of Anson Road, Manchester, will be sentenced on August 20.

The arrests were made during Operation Toadstool, an undercover crackdown on illegal drugs during April and May.

Police said they targeted a ‘new generation’ of dealers who were pedalling narcotics by running mobile operations from cars.

The crackdown by Cheshire Police was their latest attempt to tackle the drugs trade in the town and follows on from Operation Dizi in 2013 and Operation Dresden in 2014.

Holland and Watt are the ninth and tenth people convicted as part of the operation.

Others include: David Hunter, 34, of Stoneleigh Close, Macclesfield, who admitted possessing crack cocaine and heroin; Thomas David Lee Jackson, 18, of Wenlock Close, Macclesfield, admitted possession of cocaine; James John Wellings Barlow, 19, of Augusta Drive, Macclesfield, admitted possession of cannabis; Craig John Allen, 32, of East Park Road, Macclesfield, admitted possession of heroin; Sam Christian John Isgar, 28, of Byron Street, Macclesfield, admitted possession of cocaine and cannabis; Thomas David Brown, 30, of Warwick Close, Macclesfield, admitted shoplifting; Marcus Mellor, 23, admitted burglary; Mark Goodwin, of Pitt Street, Macclesfield, admitted possession of a knife.
