A cyclist is taking on a 1,000 mile challenge in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.

Chris Day is cycling from Land’s End to John O’ Groats to raise money for the charity which helps patients from Bollington, Macclesfield and the surrounding area.

He lives in Bollington with his wife Rosie and is a regular at The Poachers Inn.

Chris will enjoy a hero’s welcome at the pub tonight when he stops off in Bollington on his route, before setting off again to carry on his charity challenge.

Helen and Rob Ellwood from The Poachers Inn are encouraging people to go along to the pub and show their support for Chris as he peddles through the town.

Chris, who works at AstraZeneca, said he hopes other cyclists will join him along the route.

Chris said: “I’m doing this on my own and unsupported.

“Although my original reason for trying this was as a challenge to myself, I am also using it as an opportunity to raise some money for a great local charity, East Cheshire Hospice.

“I’m hoping other cyclists will join me for part of the route, as it would be great to have some company.

“East Cheshire Hospice does stunning work.

“It’s provided a lot of help and support to a lot of people and this is my way of trying to give something back to them.”

Chris set off on Sunday, August 2 and aims to finish on Thursday, August 13. The route saw him cycling through Bollington on Thursday, August 6.

He hopes people will help him reach his target of £1 per mile.

Helen from the Poachers Inn said: “Staff and customers here at the Poachers Inn are backing Chris on his epic bike ride.

“He’s one of our regulars and comes in for the quiz. We’re right behind him for such a good cause.”
