A couple who have donated hundreds of toys to charity are urging others to follow in their footsteps.
Glyn and Kathleen Rowley, who live on the Weston, have joined our Christmas Toy Appeal to help ensure every needy child across the town is given at least one Christmas present this year.
It’s run by the Community Voluntary Service (CVS) Cheshire East, which will distribute the toys to kids who may not otherwise get one.
Generous Glyn and Kathleen, who have been collecting presents for the past few months in the hopes of finding a charity to donate them to, have offered them to CVS after spotting the appeal in the Macclesfield Express.
Glyn, 45, who lives on Hilton Close with wife Kathleen, 52, said: “It’s a matter close to our hearts. We’ve got to the point in our lives where both of us are working and we’re reasonably comfortable, we just wanted to give something back.”
Also supporting the appeal are staff at AstraZeneca and Elior UK.
Andy Grant, HR business partner at Elior UK, said: “With over a week to go, this appeal has captured the imagination of so many people here and we are overwhelmed by the number of toys that we have received.”
Andrew Luisis, from CVS, said the response from people in Macclesfield has been outstanding.
He said: “This year’s response to the CVS Cheshire East Christmas Toy Appeal has been absolutely fantastic, especially from the Macclesfield community.
“Having the staff from AstraZeneca support the appeal every year is amazing and gaining new supporters like Elior Ltd and an amazingly generous personal donation from Glyn Rowley only encourages us to work harder to bring joy to the children and families that face tough times at Christmas.
“In the five years the appeal has been running we have never been able to fill the demand of toys needed by the Cheshire East charities we directly support.
“We are very happy to say, thanks to the help from the people of Macclesfield, this year could be the year we leave no child or family disappointed.
“But we are not there yet, we still need your help, with one week left until the appeal closes it’s not too late to help.
“Visit our website – www.cvsce.org.uk – to find a collection point near you to donate a toy or two or contact us directly if you would like to donate but can’t make it to a collection point.
“Help make it a Merry Christmas for all.”
Drop points are at MAC Multi-Activity Centre, Goodall Street, or call ahead to deliver toys to the CVS Cheshire East office, at 81 Park Lane, on 01625 428301.
Toys must be dropped off before Wednesday, December 14.
