Children scrubbed up well when their handwashing was put under the spotlight at a special lesson.

Year Five pupils at Ashgrove Primary School had their handwashing skills put to the test in the lesson for Global Hand Washing Day, which encourages people to wash hands thoroughly to prevent disease.

Cutler Cleaning Supplies Ltd in Bollington which supplies washroom products to schools visited to run the hygiene session.

Pupils put UV lotion on their hands and were asked to wash their hands as they would normally. The lights were turned down and the children‛s hands checked by shining a UV torch showing the lotion which was left on their hands. The children were then shown the correct way to wash their hands, the process with the UV lotion repeated and then they discussed what they had learned.

Paul Whitehead, managing director at Cutlers said: “The children were encouraged to tell friends and family what they had learned. Every year millions of school days are lost due to illness. A great number of these could be reduced if children washed their hands regularly.”
