A care home in Macclesfield is under investigation after concerns about its care were raised by staff members.

Cheshire East Council and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are currently working together to address issues at Weston Park Care Home, on Moss Lane, Macclesfield.

The home, which is run by Four Seasons Health Care, is cooperating with the council’s safeguarding team, who are investigating the concern.

It is not the first time that concerns have been raised about Weston Park’s care.

‘Immediate action’ was ordered last year by the CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care in England, when the home failed to meet six of the seven essential standards of quality and safety it sets out. Subsequent inspections in September 2014 and January this year found that the home had made improvements and was meeting all the standards required.

A council spokesperson said it is now investigating a ‘concern’ raised about Weston Park.

After being asked about the investigation, a spokesman from the CQC said: “We received information of concern from staff members and have shared this information with the local authority.

“We are in close liaison with Cheshire East Council safeguarding team to ensure the issues raised are looked into and appropriate action is taken as required. Our priority will always be to ensure that people are safe and that their needs are being met and where we identify any risk to people living at the home we have a range of enforcement powers we can use.”

Weston Park’s Silk Unit and Mulberry Unit provide care for up to 64 older people with dementia. The Weaver Unit provides nursing and support for up to 39 older people. The home continues to admit new users.

A spokesperson for Four Seasons Health Care said: “The well-being of residents is our priority and we have an active whistle-blowing policy that encourages staff, residents and relatives to raise any concerns they may have about any aspect of care. A member of staff has raised concerns and this is currently the subject of an internal investigation.

“We are liaising closely with the council and the Care Quality Commission.

“The home was fully compliant with all of the Care Quality Commission quality criteria at its most recent inspection.”
