Over the top, boys!

ONLY one of the eight Macclesfield men killed on the first day of the battle lies in a marked grave - the remains of the others were lost forever in no-man's land.

At the moment I am researching my family history and most of the family came from Macclesfield. My Great Great Great Grandfather had 10 Children! My Great Grandfather was the Town Clerk of Macclesfield in the early part of the 20th Century. His son, my Grandfather was Albert Oldfield, he was a Captain in the 2nd Manchester Regiment in the First World War serving in France from 1915-1918. He received a Military Cross and bar. He defended a wood at one point and when he came home the house he moved into was named after the wood, but can't remember what it was called. As I say I am doing research into the family history mainly silk weavers. I want to find some archive newspapers in 1907 and wondered if anyone knew how I could get hold of the local newspapers. Apart from the War piece I'd prefer the rest not to be published, but would appreciate some advice in my research. Thank You Janet Bannister
