Hols ‘mayhem’ as XL goes bust
17/ 9/2008
SCORES of Macclesfield holidaymakers have watched their dreams of sunshine and relaxation plummet from the sky after their travel agent went bust.
Holiday firm XL was forced to ground 21 planes on Friday (September 12), leaving 90,000 people abroad, and tens of thousands more without flights to sunnier climes.
My husband read 6 weeks ago that XL were struggling but found we couldn't cancel our families October flights as XL.com operate a no refund policy. When I heard the news last Thursday it wasn't that much of a surprise but luckily we are covered by the Credit card. Also we got our 6 replacement flights cheaper than our originals!
Watch this space there could still be tears if our new Operator goes bump!

It's such a shame when good honest folk lose out through no fault of their own.
Anyone from Macclesfield who has suffered due to XL going bust are more than welcome to come down to the Durham for a drink on me (I'll need to see proof mind!)

It is a disgrace that XL were still selling holidays and taking peoples money when they knew for a FACT they were going to go bust.
If I had lost my holiday like John Johnson though, I wouldnt rebook. I'd have spent a fortnight enjoying the delights of the Chester Road Tavern.
