Residents’ anger at second phone mast
Ben Turner3/ 9/2008
ANGRY Tytherington residents are bracing themselves for a second new phone mast near their homes in as many years.
Vodafone follow T-Mobile in planning a mobile phone "base station" on Manchester Road, a short distance from Marlborough primary and Tytherington high schools.
At the end of the day its the way the cookie crumbles- stop moaning Ian Davies and Co and crack on!

You don't need to be a scientist to point to a specific piece of scientific research, when making a bold claim.
The fact is, there is no single scientific study, at least in the public domain, that makes a clear link between phone masts and cancer. Over two dozen research studies in the UK alone, indicate no causal link between phone masts and cancer or any other illness.
Just because people *think* something is so, doesn't mean it *is* so.
Certainly it will be important to continue such studies, since phone masts have only been around for a relatively short period of time. It's probably more prudent however, to base one's opinion on such matters on scientific fact, rather than the commentary of the media.
One "interesting" suggestion made, was to place a "placebo" phone mast somewhere, and to see if health-related complaints are still made because of its presence....

I think with a bit of creativity a phone mast could look good in ones garden. I'd demand a free mobile phone + unlimited usage mind. I think it should go in Boss Hoggs garden, i am sure it is big enough.

MaccForum, this is a local newspaper comments page, despite our proximity to Astra Zeneca I doubt there are many scientists lurking here so, no, we won't be providing links to complicated scientific debate on the pros and cons of phone masts. However, we’re very happy to provide you with an in-depth analysis of the best locally available pies.
And yes it is indeed a matter of 'not in my back yard', we all like the convenience of electricity but we don't queue up to have a pylon in our garden. It’s the same principle with phone masts, they are noisy, an eyesore, POTENTIALLY hazardous and they devalue the value of properties so I completely understand why people would complain about the installation.

So, still no scientific studies then. Interesting.
Is this not a classic Not In My Back Yard situation? Everyone wants the convenience of a mobile phone, but they don't want anything to do with the infrastructure required to provide it?

'PS, I also think electricity pylons have a lot to answer for as well. As with mobile phone masts (depends) on the power they are giving out.'
Quite agree, you only have to stand under the pylons on the top pitch at Macc Rugby Club to lierally hear the power going through them. My kids (7 & 9) wont stand under it they think its scary!! Saying that MRUFC have got a phone mast poorly disguised as a tree too! Wonder how much they got for that???

Maybe he has friends or family who could have the mast outside their house on behalf of MaccForum?

Youd have to find out THE POWER so to speak going through them, some are more powerfull than others. Maybe those 7 were the more powerfull ones.???
Past history on the Asbestos problem shows you never can be too carefull.
And personaly myself if i had one near me, i would find out whos land it is on and accuse them of PROFITING, putting innocent lives in danger for the filthy lucre. We all like money, but we all have not got consciences or thoughts for others on how we obtain that money.
If there is any doubt leave it out i say.
just depends on the kind of person you are. It is an issue on the island i live on now as well. One is being put near a childrens school here, there are big marches over it. The people will win here without a doubt.

That might be difficult, as he lives in the USA just a few thousand miles away. Not all is as it seems.

My local council will not accept them on council buildings but our local C of E Secondary school sees it as a money maker. My kids get nuked from the secondary school by 2 masts whilst lying in their beds and then nuked all day at school by a mast on an old BT building by their primary school.
Councils OK the planning as long as its not in/on their back yards!!!

Um, mogangirl? The "report" in the Times said that there were 7 "clusters". Out of 47,000 phone masts. That's around 0.015%. Not exactly statistically significant.
There hasn't been a single scientific paper published that clearly shows a link between phone masts to cancer. Feel free to show otherwise.
