Are our town centre plans destined to end up on the scrapheap?
by Ben Turner27/ 8/2008
Last week’s bombshell that the firm responsible for the £500million redevelopment had pulled the plug, blaming the credit crunch, is seen by some as a "bad omen" for Macclesfield’s own well-publicised vision.
But borough chiefs and developers have dismissed concerns.
Totty would you put your head on the chopping block and start advising about 500m pound projects given the times we will in currently?
I am sure whoever that indepedent planner is has more sense than that.

TSC, I believe you misread my initial post.
I don't expect a crystal ball, as I said in my original message I expect someone in the planning industry to be able to make an educated guess at whether or not a £500 million redevelopment would be advisable at this present moment in time.
I'm not asking for a definitive prediction as to future property market trends, just that a planning advisor is able to advise on future plans.

No totty, you are wrong. Being a planner certainly doesnt come with a crystal ball and is a very different skill wise to predicting future property trends.

Alan Black, MBC’s independent planning advisor from DTZ, said: "Every major development company is going to have difficulties, but I think Macclesfield has no worries. But I can’t look into the future, and I’m not an economist."
I'm sorry? We have an independent planning advisor who doesn't want to make an educated guess on the future of the property market? The future property market would be his Mastermind specialist subject surely??

Yeah, a proper cinema with a balcony like we used to have. I believe there's one hiding on Mill Street they could use!

Surely that is what I am being paid for?
An advisor is by the very title someone to advise based on their knowledge and experience. I'm not suggesting that he will be right but he is going to have a much better idea than the average person on the street.
Bottom line - if you give advice on any subject you can't sit on the fence forever.
