Stop the yobs

EXCLUSIVE by Pete Bainbridge
27/ 8/2008

MACCLESFIELD’S cabbies say drunken louts are causing more trouble in the town centre than ever before and it’s just a matter of time before a driver is seriously hurt.

Drunken thugs are smashing cab wing-mirrors and doors, running off without paying or throwing up in the backseats, according to drivers at SilverTown Taxis.

I really would like to know what happened to the charge of drunken disorderly ? Why is that charge not being used on yobs being found to be drunk and out of order on the streets today.? Perhaps a few of those around macc, people being charged with that and all over the macc express each week named and shamed. Then they would not think its so funny and big drinking so much in the future.

Tough being a copper? They've never had it so good. Great working conditions, little or no performance monitoring, superb pensions, able to retire early etc.

The dibble always like to have a grumble, the last policeman to be happy was Dixon of Dock Green. All the ones since just complain. Its a right easy gig the police, they like to make out its tough but then you would do wouldnt you?

Sad fact of life this and mirrored right across the borough. No doubt about it.

We apparently have more coppers than ever and we're being clobbered in the back pocket to pay for PCSOs. Meanwhile some of them seem to spend a large portion of their time justifying the unjustifiable on local web forums and discussion boards!

I appreciate it must be tough being a copper but demonstrating so publicly that you are out of touch hardly does you any favours. Given this I'm not the least bit suprised you arent being contacted in person.

   PS, Macc forum

When you are a bunch of people, (totaly ruled from above by certain policies and protocol and acting out the P R that is too much prevalent in every walk of life these days.) And not allowed to use your own initiative and think for yourself in your job anymore frightened of upsetting your bosses. It is not the policemen themselves, It is how they have to work which is all pr these days and gang together en mass, when there is big trouble, Policemen used to be friendly people one of us. They are not now. They are just like politicians, all for the (system) they work for they are forced to be like that. The police themselves are sick of it and leaving in droves.

I dont know if you have noticed in this world, But everything is all PR and no action at all. Its all very well the police saying that everybody needs to spend a lot of money on cctv cameras. While the police actualy, dont seem to think of (the solution) straight away and deal with it which is what they are contacted for in the first place Action! Its my view that when you go to the police for anything they are (because of policies they have to adher to first)Are always looking over your shoulder and trying to place the problem elsewhere, in this case on the lack of cctv cameras and other business people round there (what they should do)about it. In other words, trying to get people in business round there to deal with it all themselves. Probably because of lack of Police budgets (money). This seems to be the policy all the time now with the police. My view in this day and age is. Police action incognito, bang a few up, word gets round that you dont know who is who in that area Police or customers. Then that will solve the problem. Decent behavior round there, just in case next time. Its not just drink in people its bad behavior as well.A few police in plain clothes now and again,is far cheaper than cctv van and mass uniform prescence for a couple of nights.

I will not start up the Police marksmen again i have said my piece on that one.And am waiting the hearings on it.

Tomo its a comments board, why do you take it all so personally? You seem bright enough, dont understand why you are so sensitive. Stop coming across as such a deep & meaningful thinker. Its patronising.

run along and find someother people to run your odd studies on.

First the tactics of police marksmen, and now community policing. What next mogangirl - telling detectives how to solve crimes?

Tomo. I dont think anyone is on here TO STICK IT TO ANYONE. Where do you get it from, thinking that everyone is out for a nasty challenge.? What people are doing is voicing there points of view, If someone doesnt like that well, thats life isnt it?

Inspector Woods. I do understand things from the police point of view. It is very hard for you these days. THE SYSTEM you have to work in and go by, which every body knows and even officers themselves are frustrated with. But just now and then you will get one officer who will find a way to catch the villians at it. (Action instead of all PR in the community) That is what the Taxi drivers are asking for. If the yobbos dont know if the people waiting for taxis are plain clothes police or just ordinary people. THEY WILL THINK TWICE. Just get plain clothes there to arrest a few and bang them up for the night. Word will get round fast.

Hatch that was simply me expressing my frustrations in type as users will often make comment and then decline to contact me so that I can try to address the concerns that have been raised. I had absolutely no intention to offend anyone, I am simply intent on being as accomodating as I can be on these types of discussion forums.    Inspector Woods. Of course it will be quiet and no trouble (whilst your men are there showing there presence.) they are hardly going to kick off IN FRONT of the police are they? What you need to do is go there incognito. PLAIN CLOTHES. posing as customers. ONLY THEN will you be able TO KNOW whats what around there. But far be it from me to tell you how to do your job.

Chaps, be reasonable. It's all very making anonymous platitudes about the Inspector and his officers and thinking you've really "stuck it to the man", but what does it actually achieve? Does it solve anything? Does it get anything done? Does it improve the safety of Macc? No, of course not.

Pete111, unwittingly or not you have just proved the Taxi Drivers point.

Inspector Gareth Woods is there any need for disparaging remarks about user names? I have never met you but if that is how you normally address people; then I could understand why people would feel spoken down to. Not a health trait for inspiring confidence.

Why does Councillor Watson say "obviously I'm not around Park Green at 3am" - why is that obvious? Can he be more clearer as to what he means?

You misunderstand, Taxi Driver - it's you who is bleating, not me. It's you who is complaining, not me.

I specifically requested that my staff visit the taxi premises on Friday and Saturday night and that our CCTV Van was positioned in the area on both nights as well. All was fairly quiet and the taxi company staff were appreciative of the support. There are clear issues in the area around lighting and CCTV coverage and we will help to progress improvements in those areas accordingly. For as long as I am in charge of the local Neighbourhood Policing Unit I will happily engage in local debate and will ensure that I do not hide behind a username as the vast majority of contributors to this site take comfort in doing. My colleagues and I strive to do our very best for the area every day of the week and my commitment to you all is that this will continue.
