Fun day faces axe

20/ 8/2008

MACCLESFIELD’S beloved West Park Family Fun Day and Party in the Park could both be axed due to issues over future funding.

Councillor Andrew Knowles, who has been charged with determining the future of both events, admitted he was unable to confirm they would proceed next year.

Ollie, the party in the park is not to everyones taste, they are free to critise it if they wish, certainly some seem valid, 45 mins from Lulu, I don't know how much she got paid but can you say that it was worth it?

Doubt it.

It's a great pity that people only see the bad and have to criticise. Long may the party continue whilst Bill North is in situ.

I think the way this story has been spun by the Express is interesting. The basis of the article is simply that any local event funded through the current councils (MBC, CBC or C&NBC) will have to be reviewed when the new Cheshire East authority is in place. This is because there will be revenue raised by people outside the catchment area. For example, we will be funding the Daneside theatre, Chester Forum and Crewe Lyceum but have no similar arts venue in Macclesfield. Maybe we will end up with a purpose built arts venue here to remove that difference? Stand by for low flying pigs.

Cheers MaccForum i appreciate that. I just think a greater work ethic is required at this stage. No proms, certainly no parties in the park, unless Boss Hogg agrees to clean up afterwards!

Satisfied Customer - your commentaries on matters pertaining to other people enjoying themselves, while completely bizarre, always make me smile...

A tenner to wait for a forgotten pop star, - booked for a massive fee - to come on late and leave after 45 minutes while half of Macc gets drenched? That's a Lulu of a money making scheme, but how exactly is it fun?

Plenty of people I know like neither Motown or Lulu, don't have kids and prefer not to stand around in the rain. A nice, quiet evening with good friends in the pub was clearly going to be a lot more fun.

Perhaps we have a chance here to develop a new cultural event to put Macclesfield on the map, some local bands, some music workshops, some DJ's side by side with some ballroom, country, reggee etc lets cater for everyone It does not have to be in the Park people.

The FunDay is like the School Proms, unnneccesary, especially in this tough credit crunch era. Bill North must come forward and be make himself accountable.

Mr Webb you must have a pretty weak business if one saturday night out of the year is the make or break for your business. I think the fun day needs updating but the Party in the Park just gets better and better. Its a great night out for people of all ages and a great chance to meet new people. It would be tragic if it didn't continue.

It would be good news the end of this fun day. It doesnt merit funding, is a 20th throwback and I am pleased the likes of Bill North are finally being made to realise this.

Cant these new jobsworths on 100.000 pounds per year get the job done to keep it running? If not why not?
