Lifeline for post offices
Rhiannon McDowall16/ 7/2008
THIS IS your last chance to save Macclesfield’s post offices.
As the deadline looms, the battle by postmasters and residents to rescue six depots from the chopping block has intensified.
On June 10, post offices at Bollington Cross, Bollinbrook, Sutton, Broken Cross, Gawsworth and Poynton’s Hockley were told they faced the bullet, giving the owners just six weeks to drum up support from the local community and prove they are worth saving. But on Monday, July 21, the axe will finally fall, leaving the fate of each one in the hands of the Post Office Ltd.
Satisfied Customer:: I am not a believer in change for change's sake. I can see no reason whatsoever to close a sub-post office that is not losing money.
Pete:: I don't necessarily disagree with your comments. If some local entity believes in the value of a particular local post office, and it has the backing of its constituents to subside it, then fair enough - the people have spoken. However - such a situation does reduce the incentive to improve on the quality of goods and services being offered.

Post Offices may be '20th Century' but then so are the very people who depend on them, in particular the old and those who live in rural areas.
It's not a matter of 'profit', Macc Forum, it's a matter of social need.
Which is why one Lancashire council has decided to subsidise them.
For a particular segment of our society, they're essential; and if we believe in all of us having some kind of responsibility for others, then we should be trying our utmost to ensure that they continue as long as needs be.

Macc Forum so you suggest that we wait till they start losing money before we close them?
Post Offices have done nothing to adapt to the changing world we live in, like the Video Store, they face extinction unless they make serious changes.
The changes aren't going to happen any time soon so best get these Post Offices closed ASAP.

If these post offices are making a profit, it makes no sense to close them. Good luck with the campaign.

Post Offices are 20th century, they are needed less and less in the information age. Like Chimney Sweeps and Coal Merchants before etc.
