So, what's in a name? (Well, quite a lot actually ...)
Alex Bell16/ 7/2008
AYRTON’S the driver, Astra’s the car and Diesel’s the engine – but not in the Armitt family.
Claire and Ian Armitt of Brook Street, Macclesfield, have seven children whose names are: Oceania, Chikara, Astra, Diesel, Ayrton, Kirstan and Kay – an eccentric collection of monikers.
mogongirl, common sense prevails!! i happen to really like the names of the kids in the article. the author of the article must live a very sheltered life, to think they are so unusual.the closed mindedness is typical of so many brits.in the states, no one would think twice about those names or those of your friends kids.now, the ones that are really ridiculous are when a child is named after a whole football team.

The trouble with the world and its kids today. (is not originality and uniqueness)
its the gangs of sheep all with the same boring names and hairstyles all copying one another and following there big bully leader, All feared of standing out alone in case they get knifed or shot.
(Id have hated my son to end up a sheep fearfull of his peers cos he didnt wear designer clothes A COWARDLY CLONE.
Long live originality and everybody free to be just themselves. An aqaintance of mine called her daughters Mercedes, Porche, and her son Bentley. Let the bullys be feared of originality in the future generations.
because that is what all the cowardly bulling is about, Its the sheep that do the bulling living in fear and inadequacy inside themselves fearing change themselves, and jealouse of anyone who has the guts TO BE THEMSELVES.

Lesley, you have a pretty ordinary name. Take your head out of the clouds for one moment and come back down to earth. Kids can be cruel and it seems to me the mother here is on some sort of ego trip, which will be, at the expense of her kids.
They dont need one-off names to realise they are unique -that is a lazy, short-sighted and weak notion. And being unique isnt always the best thing to be aged 10 on the playground.

tomo, so everyone should give their kids generic names to protect them from mindless bullies? i hope they are able to realize their uniqueness and have an amazing level of selfesteem. do the bullies all have generic names? maybe that would make for an interesting study.

I'd be very interested in a follow-up to this story in twenty years time to discover the incidence of bullying against these poor children.
