Parking wardens must fill financial shortfall

Karen Britton and Ben Turner
2/ 7/2008

THE COUNCIL is banking on the new parking wardens to bring in the cash it needs this year.

Parking failed to raise enough money in the last financial year, but Macclesfield Borough Council officers said things are now looking up with a boost to income from the wardens that were rolled out in May.

i saw a warden issuing a ticket on a car and as i could see the payment ticket i asked why she had given the car a ticket, the owner of the car had returned and put another ticket on the car as they must have realised they would be in town longer than the original 2 hours so nothing illegal there but the warden said this "they should have put a 4 hour ticket on when they first came and not come back to put another ticket on so i am giving them a parking ticket" dont know about you but i do this all the time if i get held up somewhere then i rush back and put another ticket on but it seems not any more am i alone in doing this and do others realise we can no longer do this.

Whats the problem? The coffers need filling and this is as good a method as any other.

Put yourself in there shoes for a moment, admit it, you'd do the same. Low hanging fruit, easy pickings, they would be fools not to.

I think if council want more cash then why don`t they refuse to have a increase in their salaries.this way the monies the wardens fine the puplic could go towards the making of new parking areas for macclesfield people . sylvia

Perhaps the council would like to send a couple of traffic wardens to Tytherington to stop people from causing a blind exit from the shops by dumping their Chelsea Tractors and vans on the pavement when there's a near-empty pub car park not 20 metres away.
