Masterplan met wth concern
2/ 7/2008
DETAILS of the town redevelopment plans were unveiled yesterday among claims the process has "misled" the public.
Councillor Brendan Murphy says the new "masterplan" includes significant changes which could anger residents, and who should have been consulted sooner.
The express approached Boss Hogg for comment but he was too busy counting his money.

For a town of Maccs size not to have a cinema is unbelievable. Pathetic. Legalise Drugs? Having a cinema and some normal alternatives to narcotics might be a start- what does Boss Hogg and his followers think?

Lets get this straight.
Wilson Bowden the chosen developer are in a financial crisis and their parent company Barratt Developments is £1.7billion in debt. There are talks about them going into administration. They are about to lay off over 1000 staff and have already pulled out of redevelopment schemes due to financial concerns. Their 'public consultations' about the redevelopment are a complete farce and the public have been misled.
The fasgship store is a Debenhams (wow, we can be like Stockport) who are also in a deep financial crisis and are over £1billion in debt and cannot afford to pay some of their suppliers on time.
Nobody in the town has seen the new redevelopment plans yet (that means us the people, the ones that live and work here and pay council tax). I'm pretty sure that the plans will be a cost saving exercise for Wilson Bowden and that some small businesses will still suffer.
We are suffering a credit crunch (just in case nobody has noticed) and we are probably heading for a recession.
Is it the act of a responsible council who have already caused town centre misery with their 'constant dithering' to still go ahead with the plans with Wilson Bowden?
Should the whole thing be put on hold and put back to public consultation?
Will the public be told how much money the council have wasted on this whole project already?
I agree that Macclesfield needs investment, but not this and not now.

Why am I getting a bad feeling of "design by committee" about this plan?

The only thing missing from the artist impression is the cigarette butts, kebab wrappers, hoodies and last nights blood.
The one thing they have got right is that there is hardly anyone in the picture, just like Macc on a saturday.
