£173,000 - salary for new council chief exec
Exclusive by Ben Turner4/ 6/2008
THE NEW boss of Cheshire East Council will take home a salary of £173,000 – not much less than Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s own pay packet.
The salary for the top job in the fledgling authority – advertised during an economic downturn – has sparked widespread criticism, with many Maxonians claiming it is too much to pay one person from the public purse.
And the wage – paid for out of council tax receipts – will have Gordon Brown looking over his shoulder, as he earns £189,000 - just £16,000 more.
173K is fine - only a couple of days parking fines should cover it.
