Council ban on treetop teddies

by Karen Britton
30/ 4/2008

THE PICNIC is over for a treetop teddy bear display at Bollington tip removed by the "killjoy county council".

Waste workers had lovingly assembled the tableau – made up of abandoned cuddly toys – to add a touch of colour to the site.

Ah, Mr Customer, but wouldn't such a statue be "distracting"?

Yes Slinky, without the Council protecting us the likes of Pooh Bear could destroy our entire civilization. 3 Cheers for the Council - we could do some funraising and have a statue of the Council Official raised in Bollington in honour of this brave and altuistic deed.

Sorry to disagree but Poo bear is a radical extreemist that believes 100 acre wood should be given independence, he is a menance and neeeds to be stopped, 2nd only to Osma on the wanted list.

The people at the council who think these poor bears are distracting have clearly never been through Rainow when the scarecrow festival is in full swing. If they had, they'd know that whole families are regularly distracted when travelling at speed, and yet, the scarecrows aren't banned.

So, no, this obviously isn't about safety at all. It's about some jobsworth imposing their will by misusing rules to enforce personal taste while convincing themselves and others that they're worshiping that great god "Health and Safety".

Besides, has anyone seen just how many signs there are at the average tip? That's distracting, not some bears waving from a tree!

Another classic case of council officials creating issues out of nothing. If they didnt they would be out of a job. Whoever thinks a few teddies is an eyesore must be a strange person indeed.
