Tesco plan defeated

Pete Bainbridge and Ria Nortcliffe
19/ 3/2008

TESCO’S grand designs for Macclesfield were dealt yet another blow last week as plans for a store in Broken Cross hit the bottom of the town hall’s bin.

Hot on the heels of two other refusals, borough councillors unanimously rejected the supermarket’s application to build an "Express" outlet on the J and P Rose garage site, on Chelford Road.

Was the planning application judged on its merits, or was this just an excuse to have an easy go at big, bad Tesco?

If my memory serves me correctly, there are 3 Co-ops within a mile radius of Broken Cross, A convenience store on site, and an all night garage with shop facilities...seems like enough to me....Your council planning office should be congratulated.

Thank goodness for that! It's about time Tesco learned that one store in the town is convenient, two is excessive and three is just plain taking the mickey.
