Man's council tax bill came to one penny
Chris Morris12/ 3/2008
AN OUTRAGED council tax payer who received a bill for just one penny has branded the system "ludicrous".
Electrician Chris Norton, 40, of Hamble Way, Macclesfield, could not believe his eyes when he received the demand for the paltry sum, to cover tax arrears from 2002 to 2003.
And the father-of-three says he is furious that Macclesfield Borough Council would spend taxpayers’ money on post and packaging to send an invoice for such a tiny amount.
Sparky - it just shows that they do not learn from their mistakes.

Leigh one could easily argue that your last comment is a point for discussion - would you not agree?

The point is that it is a non story that should not have made it into the paper.
And this man's outrage looks rather synthetic.

Including those who don't want to comment on or discuss the stories here it seems, but make snide comments instead. What do you think about the article "garry"?

Why does the internet attract just about every nut in the world to a web site?

Leigh, are you saying that only people who agree with you should post here? Or do you support the right of others to hold different views from yours?
As for this story it really seems to be a lot of fuss about nothing. We could rewrite it as "computer makes small error and man overreacts in an attempt to get himself in the local paper" If this chap is so outraged over such a trivial thing then I wonder how he would be if something really important ever happens in his life!

Wouldn't life be dull Mr Turner if everyone had the same opinions to add to the comments forumn. I for one welcome Slinky's and the Satisfied Customers ability to think outside the box and offer a more subversive take on things. Without them the comments section would reek of bordeom.

Slinky! Leigh Turner and co are hard work that is for sure. Why they get so frustrated because not everyone sees the world through their blinkers is hilarious. Dogmatic is not the word.....

Could I just butt in here and say that I wish my council tax bill was only a penny, and that Chris is being a bit of a drama queen.

Think about it: it would have cost the Council exactly the same amount to post a letter saying that the penny would just be added to the next bill, as it actually cost to send the bill itself. So, no money was wasted as a result of this bill.

Conspiracy theories? Always helps when you are being shown up to be a person out to ruin and comments section of a paper. Slinky and the (Dis)Satisfied customer only like to post opinions which are contrary to the majority of members. It’s a column for comment for God’s sake not a discussion board.

Should less emphasis be placed on the results of tests and more emphasis on general education for children?
