Parish council says 'no' to the man from Tesco

Pete Bainbridge

A DRAMATIC two-hour meeting in Poynton ended with parish councillors asking the borough council to reject plans for a Tesco in the village – to applause from a 250-strong audience.

There wasn’t a single empty seat in the civic hall, as residents packed in to hear the parish’s planning committee debate the supermarket giant’s proposals to build on London Road South.

Hopefully the borough council and see sense and ignore these crackpots from the parish council. They are clearly living in some sort of timewarp with their perception of Poynton. It is a thoroughfare in anycase with traffic passing to and from Manchester. They should be grateful that Tesco's is willing to bring some professionalism to the rag tag band of traders who run the majority of the small businesses in Poynton. They are outdated, over priced and in the main inefficient. 3 cheers for Tescos.
