A brave cancer patient has died days after marrying the love of his life.

James Mottershead, 30, was told in January that he had just months to live after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

He refused to let the illness beat his desire to marry his partner of 11 years Letitia Bull, who is also the mum of their four-year-old daughter Ruby.

The wedding, which had been planned for September was raced forward to March 21 and was being organised by charity Gift of a Wedding.

But sadly James’s health deteriorated and the couple exchanged nuptials in a small ceremony at their home on the Moss estate on March 11.

James passed away on March 14.

James was diagnosed on Valentine’s Day last year. He had an operation to remove the tumour but tests a month later revealed the cancer had spread to his lungs.

James began an intense eight-month schedule of chemotherapy and in December had an operation to remove his right lung.

At the start of the year he found out the cancer has spread to his liver and he was dying.

Since his diagnosis James has been backing the Check ‘Em Lads campaign.

Speaking in the Express earlier this month James said it had been his dream to marry Letitia. He also thanked the community for its support.

He said: “We always come out to support each other in this town.”
