Barlow's brief
When is a u-turn not a u-turn
15/ 8/2007
WHEN 82-year-old Eric Brocklehurst lost his place at the much-vaunted Golden Village care centre after CLS Care Services failed to agree financial terms with Cheshire County Council, the Express championed his case calling it a 'scandal'.
The following week Mr Brocklehurst, who had been moved three times in 12 months, was 'reassessed' by Cheshire County Council and given back his place at the new care facility. (Almost) everyone was overjoyed.
'U-turn allows Eric into Golden Village' said the Express headline. Not so say the council.
Cheshire County Council's 'reassessment' was all part of an 'agreed protocol' and nothing to do with the Express campaign whatsoever. So there you have it: no u-turn…just normal council procedure.
(I'd also like to point out there are fairies living at the bottom of our garden).

CLS and CCC are so caring that the paper features two other elderly ladies who have been denied residence at their new home, and actually have been split up into separate cheaper homes.
A time will come when the people making these perverse decisions will need care themselves.
