Here comes the sun again

25/ 4/2007

AS I write this week's column we are experiencing the first heat wave of the year. Even on our windswept hillside it's 24 degrees (that's about 76 in old money).

I love summer it's wonderful to sit out in the evenings instead of slumping in front of the TV. I like watching the swifts and swallows swooping over our pond and feeding on the wing. What I don't like is all those blokes walking around town in shorts, socks and open-toed sandals. Someone should tell them.

Now summer women are something else. They do know how to dress but I'm not sure it's safe for me to risk both eyes (I should wear an eye patch like Dr Hook).

If the weather stays like this I'll stay at home this summer. Who wants to be herded into an airport lounge and held to ransom by a bunch of French air traffic controllers?

So, come on sun, bombard me with ultra violet rays - I'm ready.
