Barlow's brief
Everyone loves the sound of my voice
Vic Barlow18/ 4/2007
I DON'T know why I never made it big on the radio, seems like everyone loves my voice. Each time I make a phone call it has to be recorded 'for training purposes'. So far I've 'trained' British Telecom, HSBC, National Power, AOL, Prudential Insurance, Tesco Direct, Toyota, HM Customs and Excise and several minor companies (less than 1000 employees) that don't justify a mention.
But who would have thought I'd be a role model for Macclesfield town hall? There used to be a time when councillors got up an hour earlier each morning so they could hate me for longer (happy days) so how come they want to use my voice for 'training purposes'? Apparently, they do.
They told me so on the phone last week. They must mean it because they never said so on any of my previous calls. It was just, "Hello, Macclesfield Borough Council" and "I'm putting you through," without any preamble but not any more. Now they want to record my voice for all to hear and learn.
It's going to be weird when everyone working for the council ends up talking like me - innit?
