It pays to be a dog in labour

Vic Barlow

WE WERE expecting our second and final litter of the year last Sunday night when mother-to-be Pippa went into shock. When she began vomiting it was obvious we had a serious problem.

We rushed her down to the emergency vet who within 20 minutes assembled an operating team and performed a Caesarean section. After an agonising three hours they delivered seven healthy puppies and Pippa is now recovering at home.

So, while we have to fight like hell to prevent losing our local maternity facilities, our dogs have competent, committed veterinarians standing by ready to assist a floundering mother deliver her puppies.

Had our vet been 20 miles away we would have had a very tragic ending.

Makes you think doesn't it?
