Success of play is no mystery

WITH A blizzard howling through the streets, I never expected to see a crowd gathering in Macclesfield town centre on Easter Saturday. But just like Baldrick, Sutton vicar Taffy Davies had "a cunning plan".
He arranged for Bollington British Legion band to march up Mill Street drawing a curious crowd into Market Place where a group of people dressed in Victorian costume performed a short Easter play.
Before the audience had time to disperse, Taffy and his fellow vicars ushered everyone into St Michael’s Church for tea and biscuits.
It was a brilliantly timed invitation that no one could refuse.
The performance was the perfect start to a holiday weekend, and a gentle reminder of its Christian origin.
There were no hymns or sermons, just a warm welcome for everyone present to take tea in the shelter of the church.
This, surely, is the way to true unity.
With summer months approaching, maybe we could have some more performances in the town centre?
