Barlow's brief

PC police are guilty of missing real criminals
Vic Barlow12/ 3/2008
THE POLITICALLY Correct Brigade has been monitoring our speech for a decade, stridently weeding out words that might unconsciously influence our moral compass.
There are now no ‘actresses’ or ‘women police constables’ – only actors and constables.
Well what good points do you think he makes?

He makes very good points though. So you don't agree. So what?

This is interesting because it actually says more about Vic's beliefs and his approach to the facts than anything else.
Why should anyone want to know the gender of a police officer? We don't refer to male police officers or even male dog trainers. They are just Police officers and dog trainers!
The other examples he gives are cases of what is known as generalising from the specific. Because some one may have suggested this once somewhere does not mean that it is in general usage. Flipcharts are called flipcharts ( 30 seconds on Google will confirm this), female dogs are called bitches and black sheep are still called black sheep.
Really what he is doing is constructing an issue which doesn't exist to support his views about the Police and his one man mission to spread fear and insecurity in the people of Macclesfield.

And Leigh Vic is only moaning about the PC aspect, the example of lawyers is only to highlight his totally useless PC point.

Big yawn. What a pointless comment. Judging by this i think Vic must be as bored of his column as we are.

Leigh, I agree - but this has nothing to do with political correctness. There hasn't been a 'change' in the behaviour of lawyers in the past few years - Vic's column is a mess because he confuses two quite separate issues.

Pete that is the problem. Lawyers have no ethics. Perhaps it takes someone like Vic Barlow to remind us.

This is a desperate column that has no logic. You quote two lawyers - in my memory, lawyers acting on behalf of villains have always, repeat, always, defended their clients in this way. There has been no change whatsoever.

Hi Eppy,
I never said I didn't like it. I merely pointed out that Vic is starting to sound like a scratched record. All I am trying to point out is that if Vic wants to keep his readers interested, he needs new material.
Or are you happy to read the same column week in and week out?

That seems perfectly reasonable to expose P.C. madness and stupidity. If you don't like it don't read Vic's column.

Same point, different column. You've written about political correctness more times than I care to remember, Vic. Don't you think it's time to move on?

Should less emphasis be placed on the results of tests and more emphasis on general education for children?
