If you get no response from 999, blame me

Vic Barlow
5/ 3/2008

I WAS motoring gently down Buxton Road yesterday when a police car ablaze with flashing lights pulled me over.

The officer ordered me to leave my vehicle and get into his patrol car. I knew I wasn’t speeding; my truck’s relatively new so it couldn’t be a defective brake light. I hadn’t been drinking or crossed a double white line, so what was the problem?

After a lengthy introduction, I was informed one letter in my registration was incorrectly spaced. Nothing wrong with the rest of the plate, just the one single letter.

As for not having many friends in Macclesfield, how would you know? and how would the fact my name on this site annoys a few people be in anyway a reflection of the number of friends i have in Macclesfield?

and anyway, who would want to go for a pint with Big K, Epilson, Maxonian, Leigh Turner in anycase, with friends like them.......You on the other hand sound like a right laugh mate.....

Yes had dealings when been burgled etc when lived in Macc. Thought the police are ok generally, do a good job in trying circumstances. Seems to me some people just love to moan.

Satisfied - I, and many who know me, would say I am not insular or narrow minded. My postings are only designed to be balanced and reasoned. If in the case of this story the opposite had happened I would have said so, I believe the local police provide a valuable service when they get it right. If I had never dealt with the police I couldn't justify making a comment.

Accordingly,

Have you had any dealings with the boys (and girls) in blue ,was it to your satisfaction? Did you feel you received the support you needed?

No, i think sparky has just identified someone who plagues web sites to disagree and wind people up. You cannot have too many friends in Macclesfield, can you?

Sparky how do you know it is of no concern to me? As mentioned plenty of times previously i have siblings, parents and many friends in Macclesfield still so these matters are of concern.

The last time i was back in Macc i could buy the Express without providing a proof of local address to the Newsagent so why dont you get over my location and prove that you are not as parochial as some of the other posters on here.

Thank you to those of you who have made contact with me and discussed matters as I hoped we would be able to do. Hopefully some you of you may agree that I have been able to outline why certain things happen in certain ways and how policing priorities are strongly linked to what the community wants. For those who have been critical but havent taken the opportunity to discuss matters the offer to engage in that discussion remains an open one. I find some of the contradictions expressed in the discussions to be frustrating. The best example is that on the one hand we are accused of targeting motorists to achieve targets whilst on the other hand we are accused of being incapable of enforcing parking restrictions which, if done in the manner that the comment suggests, would specifically target the same motorists. I will happily continue to engage in these types of local discussions as I feel that it is important to do so. Many thanks for reading.

Not to upset any one but the comments of Mac forum ( 1 view at most but loves the thought of being a the voice of many) and satisfied ( probably not as much as wanted to be, living abroad but feels the need to cling to something that has no concern - maybe no one listens abroad?) are unreasoned and pretty boring

Okay, to add some more fuel to the fire.... I called cheshire police to report an incident involving an individual who I had just served a court order on. He was extremely agressive and threatened me. 30 minutes after i logged with cheshire police he was at my front door trying to kick it down, I called the police again and whilst on the phone he left. 30 minutes later he arrived at my parents house and did the same. This was then logged with the cheshire police. 7 days later the local pcso got in contact - 14 days after that they spoke to the man. Is this good policing? To feel threatened for 21 days? Maybe at the time something more urgent was going on - I have no arguement with that or maybe somebody was being stoped by the police traffic unit. Ask yourself how you would feel - in my position a 8 month baby, a 6 year old, a severely disabled 8 year old and a wife. very disappointed so for Mr Woods comments they are not entirely acurate :->

Perhaps these conspiracy theories show that someone has been reading too many fairy stories.

What it means is, no one must be allowed to proffer criticism towards the Police or they will be accused of some untoward acts.

If that is the case then please add my name to the list of people critical of the Police standards today. I have recently moved from Derbyshire and the Police coverage offered by them is of a similar woeful standard.

There are some backward countries where the Police Departments are expected to respond withing 3 minutes, otherwise the reason for any delay is demanded. From what I read here these countries would make the local Police here look even worse.

Just an opinion.

The individual concerned appears to believe that his experience of policing [from a time long gone] is *more* relevant to these discussions than the presentation of facts and well-reasoned points of discussion.

The fact is that such experience *is* useful to such debate, but is *not* superior to objective evidence and points of fact. This is why it is important for critics of, for example, the community policing meetings, to explain what the specific problems are, if they want their points to have any credibility.

If that was the case, surely that would be more reason to take notice of his views. However I have not seen anything to indicate this, unlike your. Of course you speak from afar, but I do believe that in the US Police departments aim to respond within 3 minutes, as shown on several TV documentaries, if you believe them.

   Insp Woods,

All credit to you for trying to provide reasoned responses to the criticisms raised.

Be aware that a number of the accounts used to have a go on this [and other] matters, are controlled by an ex-policeman who appears to believe that he knows more about modern policing than actual police officers doing the job today.
